Chapter 1. SEO and content sites — for beginners

A search page answers one query from one person. A second topic on the same page makes it harder for the reader and for search to see what the text is about. You phrase the query the way a person might type it, not as the offer's internal name. This chapter is about that pair: the query and the page. A pile of domains and grey schemes are not part of it.

Before the text you decide what the person wants: to understand, to compare or to take a step. A “what is this” page does not have to sell at once. A “how to get it” page has to show the step. If the intent and the text diverge, the person goes back to search. The offer goes on a page that already answers the query, not instead of the answer.

The page title contains the query in ordinary words and promises what is in the text. The description under it in search is one line about why to open it. Repeating the keyword ten times does not strengthen the title. If the title is louder than the text, you fix the text or the title until they match.

A paragraph answers part of the question: what it is, who it fits, what the step is. The keyword can appear, but the page can be read aloud without embarrassment. A list of someone else's cities and a repeated sentence do not count as text. After the draft another person reads the page. If they did not understand the answer, the query is not covered.

At the end of the page there is one link to where it is logical to go next: a neighboring question, or the offer if the person has already read through. The link is tracked if it goes to an offer. Ten buttons of different offers do not go in the footer. An internal link to your own neighboring page helps the person stay on the topic. Someone else's site is not dropped in without a reason.

A place in search is not a result by itself. You look at whether people click the page and reach the step. If there is a place and no clicks, the title does not explain why to open it. If there are clicks and the step is empty, the page did not lead them. This chapter does not teach buying a pile of links or cloning the same page. It teaches you to take one honest page through to a clear step.
